April 28, 2026: Next Meeting

March 17, 2026:

  1. The Hill Association –Peters.
    1. Membership dues in progress; contact Jenny Boettcher for info.
    2. New payment platform for non-profits: Zeffy.
    3. City of GPF update – Pier Park bathhouse demolition in progress for pool renovation.  Flowers will be planted on The Hill in May.
    4. The Helm is running a pilot program for adult daycare.
    5. GP Central Library has a special “Author Event” on 4/18. Tickets are sold out.
    6. Thrive on The Hill. iCryo is hosting a health fair and wellness-oriented street festival on Saturday, July 18, 2026 (afternoon/evening).
  2. Affiliate Committee –Peters.
    1. Pop-up tax issue continues to be a topic of discussion. 
    2. Speed Networking collaboration event w/ YPN planning is in the works.
  3. Grosse Pointe Park - DeRosier:
    1. Some Park residents are not aware of the approval to allow Farms residents access to GPP pool.  Get the word out.
    2. March Tax Board of Review. 3/24 is the last remaining day to appeal.
    3. Charlevoix social district re-design / re-build will begin mid-April or as soon as weather permits.
    4. Kercheval After Six days are confirmed: 6/27, 7/25, 8/22
    5. Hazardous waste drop-off date is 4/11 at Neff Park for Farms/City/Park/Shores; Shred Day for Park residents only is 5/16 at Windmill Pointe Park
  4. Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce –Rumohr:
    1. Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast May 7. Tickets are still available.
    2. 3/23 Canva Marketing lunch & learn class.
    3. 3/30 Sunset social at The Bricks.
    4. 4/22 Sunrise social at The Daily Jam.
    5. 2nd annual Community Impact Day. Last year saw 80 volunteers. This year’s goal is 150-200. Donna O’Neil will discuss with GPBR Community Outreach Committee.
  5. Grosse Pointe City - O’Neill: Absent.
  6. Grosse Pointe Farms – Lally:
    1. Property tax board of review day 2 is 3/24.
    2. Storm water separation project continues. Tonnancour Place section should be completed before May.
    3. Pier Park $15M pool renovation is in progress.
    4. Zoning ordinance changes now allow for residential housing above businesses on The Hill.
  7. Grosse Pointe Shores – Wakefield: Absent.
  8. Grosse Pointe Woods –O’Keefe:  March tax board of review in progress.
  9. Harper Woods – Singh: Absent, but says nothing significant to report. Note: We need to find a replacement for Melissa; she will stay on until a replacement is identified.
  10. Young Professionals Network – Holguin:  Absent, but sent notes.
    1. Tuesday, 3/24 – YPN Tax Talk - Hosting a free tax talk at Nino Salvaggio featuring a certified tax planner, a financial planner, and an attorney with lunch.

February 10, 2026:

  1. Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce –Rumohr: Absent but submitted report.
    1. New resident bags. GP Chamber of Commerce has goodie bags for all new residents.
    2. The Chamber offers memberships for both real estate brokerages / offices and individual agents, with different pricing and benefits for each.
  2. Affiliate Committee – Peters. Next committee is meeting tomorrow, Feb 11. Donna O’Keefe observed the number of affiliates has dropped significantly in the past year. Affiliates are working to provide value to agent members of the GPBR, which should demonstrate value to affiliates and help bolster the number of affiliate members. If you have ideas, please let Laura know.
  3. Grosse Pointe Park - DeRosier:
    1. “Trombly United” group spoke at city council meeting about the benefits of re-opening Trombly Elementary School for the GPPSD. Last weekend the GPPSD had an open house listening session to hear community feedback regarding the topic. The City of GPP signed a contract with Tenurgy, a Michigan-based consulting company specializing in utility bill auditing. This will not cost taxpayers any money and should result in lower utility costs.
    2. City Council approved a proposal to share park access with some GP Farms residents while the Pier Park pool is closed for renovations this summer. Specifics TBD. May revisit at next city council meeting.
    3. Charlevoix social district re-design / re-build will begin as soon as weather permits.
  4. Grosse Pointe City - O’Neill: Absent but submitted her report.  City council held a special meeting on Jan 12 to discuss alternate funding options to help reduce city dependency on operating millage. One option is a “Headlee override,” which allows voters to temporarily lift state-imposed limits on property tax revenue.  City council will revisit on Feb 23.
  5. Grosse Pointe Farms – Lally:
    1. Residents will be split into two groups this summer during Pier Park pool closure / renovations.  Half of the residents will go to GP Woods Lake Front Park and half will go to GP Park Windmill Pointe Park, and the groups will swap halfway through the summer. 
    2. New restaurant to replace The Bronze Door. Tavola Mia – Chic Italian Brunch & Dinner” will open in Spring 2026.
    3. Increases to water utility bills continue to be a problem for residents.  Chris Derosier mentioned a new request from GLWA to increase water rates by 5%.
    4. City Council is reviewing a seawall feasibility study. More to follow.
  6. Grosse Pointe Shores – Wakefield: Absent. The sledding hill at Vernier Field has been a popular place for kids this winter, and the city is cracking down to enforce resident-only access.
  7. Grosse Pointe Woods – O’Keefe.
    1. City Council approved the proposal to share park access with GP Farms residents for this summer.  They also approved the building plans for the new pickleball center at Assumption.
    2. City Manager Frank Schulte retired.  Sue Como (Mario Como’s wife), former Assistant City Manager, is now the new City Manager – and the first female in the role.
  8. Harper Woods – Singh:
    1. Roscommon pocket park development continues. Sidewalks are poured and traffic island is complete. Speedbumps will be installed to slow traffic. City Council approved construction for a 20’x20’ pavilion, which should be complete by early Summer 2026.
    2. A new zoning ordinance has been published on the city’s website.
    3. Fraser Square housing project construction at the former Poupard Elementary School site is moving quickly. The developer expects to begin closing sales of completed units by Spring 2026.
    4. The Community Center new construction project at Salter Memorial Park has budget shortfalls due to issues with federal funding, so the city is modifying plans to meet grant requirements. The new facility will contain the parks & rec offices, a gym, and a pool. More to follow.
    5. Note: We need to find a replacement for Melissa; she will stay on until a replacement is identified.
  9. Young Professionals Network – Holguin:  Absent. Fajardo

  10. The Hill Association – Peters.
    1. There will be additional signage installed along St. James Way by the parking lot to slow traffic, eliminate confusion, etc.
    2. Proposal for daycare at the former Rite Aid has been denied, most notably due to impact to traffic.  The owner of the daycare is still searching for a facility.
    3. The Deli under construction appears to be stagnant.
    4. The owners of iCryo are championing a health fair street festival with a target date of Saturday, July 18, 2026 (afternoon/evening).

January 6, 2026:

  1. Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce –Rumohr:
    1. 1/29 Annual Breakfast will be a fruitful event
    2. Now available - New Residence Bags:  Members can add their items in the bag.  All REALTORS® can pick up a bag for their new homeowners.
    3. They are offering GP Gift Cards to local businesses.  They are accepted at most GP Businesses.
    4. $200 annual membership but will verify.
  2. Affiliate Committee – DeRosier: No update at this time
  3. Grosse Pointe City - O’Neill: Absent
  4. Grosse Pointe Farms – Lally:
    1. The Village Market's plans to reconfigure the McKinley and Mack Avenue intersection are ongoing, with a traffic study pending.
    2. Infrastructure upgrades, including stormwater separation and the approved design for the Pure Parks pool complex. 
    3. Peters highlighted an upcoming City Council meeting on January 12th to vote on the 107 Kercheval Rite Aid project, which requires additional information and community input. 
    4. The Bronze Door is closing.
    5. Water bills have tripled; you’ll need to double check your bills.
  5. Grosse Pointe Park - DeRosier:
    1. Park construction, including rescaping in Charlevoix will be finished in 2026.
    2. Residents have a responsibility to clear sidewalks and can use available salt at Windmill Point Park.
  6. Grosse Pointe Shores – Wakefield: Absent
  7. Grosse Pointe Woods –O’Keefe
    1. There are still traffic complaints around the new Mack and Vernier intersection, with some confusion about left turns, though it was noted the route is actually quicker than the previous setup.
    2. There have been recent City Council approvals including the rezoning of Assumption Greek Church's property for an 8-court pickleball facility and indoor turf area, and the unanimous approval of a mixed-use commercial development at Renaud and Oxford, which will include seven apartments above a single restaurant.
    3. The group discussed traffic light timing issues on Vernier Road, with Mackenzie reporting long wait times at red lights and Donna noting that the city is working on the problem. 
    4. Residents have a responsibility to clear sidewalks and can use available salt at Windmill Point Park.

  9. Young Professionals Network – Holguin:  YPN is holding a Tax Planning event on 3/24 with a CPA, Lawyer and Financial Planner.

November 18, 2025:

  1. Grosse Pointe Park – DeRosier – Tree Lighting/Holiday Festivities on 11/29 @ 6 pm
  2. Affiliate Committee – DeRosier – Affiliates are now allowed and encouraged to attend Round Table Discussions.
  3. Young Professionals Network – Fajardo - Feb 11th- Financial/Tax event @ Ginos in New Baltimore
  4. Grosse Pointe Woods – O’Keefe - Elections- unopposed incumbents; Tree Lighting on 11/25; parking meters are free compliments of Ahee from Nov 1- Jan 1; GPW City Council is still working on a new plan re-zoning the medical building into a mixed-use building, which would further align with neighborhood needs.
  5. Grosse Pointe Farms - Lally - New Mayor - John Gillooly; free parking in the Hill from 11/28- 1/1 compliments of Pearl; the city is tabling the potential day care location at the Rite Aid for a month, waiting for traffic and parking studies.
  6. Harper Woods – Singh – The new Community building is in progress, as is the Fraser Square Project.
  7. Grosse Pointe City – O’Neill – Sheila Tomkowiak was re-elected Mayor; the Tree Lighting is on 11/21; the Jingle Bell Run and Parade is on 11/28; free off-street parking in the Village 11/28- 1/1; the apartment development behind CVS seems like it has stalled.
  8. Grosse Pointe Shores – Wakefield - The city is beginning early-stage discussions on the plans for a new pool.

 

October 14, 2025:

  1. Grosse Pointe Park - Chris DeRosier: Renovations are in progress.
  2. Young Professionals Network - Mackenzie Holguin:  YPN held their Education Event last month which was well received.  The 4th Anniversary Party for a Purpose is 11/13 at Total Sports, Harrison Twp. benefiting a veteran organization: Reunite the Fight. Please attend!
  3. Grosse Pointe Farms - Ryan Lally:  city council met last night – no minutes have been posted.  GPF pool is being renovated, they will also have an online booking system.
  4. Harper Woods - Melissa Singh: 2025 Master plan has been adopted, check their website under Master Plan to see all info.  Roscommon Pocket Park – groundbreaking is done and should be completed by November. 

 

September 9, 2025:

  1. Grosse Pointe Park –DeRosier – Errors in water bills are being resolved. If a household overpaid their bill, they will receive a credit. Updated bills will be sent out in the next couple of weeks. No penalties will be assessed.
  2. Young Professionals Network - Fajardo-9/18 from 5-7pm-YPN Event: Working Smarter, Not Harder at Pepperoni Grille is free to our members.
  3. Grosse Pointe Woods – O’Keefe -GPW City Council voted 5-3 to pass the medical building re-zoning; however, the developer withdrew his re-zoning application.
  4. Grosse Pointe Farms- Ryan -Fundraiser for Pier Park Pool-9/18. No fireside chat with Mayoral candidates this election cycle.
  5. Harper Woods –Singh – renovations underway at Fraser Villa Square Development. The grand opening is set for October 4th. Register online at https://www.robertsonhomes.com/fraser-square. There will be Home Buyer sessions at Wayne County Community College on Thursday, 9/11, at 6 pm.

 

July 29, 2025:

  1. Harper Woods –Singh – renovations underway at Poupard; Community Concerts will host a Blues Fest 7/30 and 8/23
  2. Grosse Pointe Woods – O’Keefe - GPW Planning Commission has sent the old medical building re-zoning approval vote to the city council for their vote
  3. Grosse Pointe City –O’Neill – Mainstreet mini golf series in the Village will continue this year
  4. Grosse Pointe Farms- Ryan will look into how the new virtual currency ordinance will affect EMD wired funds
  5. Grosse Pointe Park –DeRosier – There will be a booth at the 8/23 After Six party to provide info on the Charlevoix Streetscape Project

 

July 1, 2025:

  1. Grosse Pointe City –O’Neill – Water distribution improvements are continuing.  There has been a 5% water rate hike.  7/26-7/27 Street Sale.
  2. Grosse Pointe Farms- Lally- The 4th of July Regatta at Pier Park is the weekend!  Lakeshore construction for separation of water and wear is underway.
  3. Grosse Pointe Park –DeRosier – Farmers Market is open Saturdays until Sept. 6th form 10am - 12pm.  It's a great place to take your clients.  A new performing arts center is set to open 10/17-10/19.
  4. Grosse Pointe Shores- Wakefield - New budget passed (last 3 years the millage rate has gone down), the water rate remains flat this year. The Grosse Pointe Shores Fireworks is on the 4th of July with public parking available.
  5. Grosse Pointe Woods – Meldrum – The walking path at the Ghesquiere Park has been completed.  It's a great place to enjoy and walk around the entire area.  Also, look for Boat Launch improvements and more!  Additional from O'Keefe: There is a rezoning of one (1) building on Renaud & Oxford from Residential/Office to Commercial.  A developer wants to make the vacant building a 3 storefronts building.

March 18, 2025:

  1. Harper Woods –Singh – there is a sidewalk repair project going on with funds provided by MDOT and Wayne County.
  2. Grosse Pointe Woods – O’Keefe – Nothing new. Alexis Deluca approved the nomination of Chris Meldrum to take over Donna O’Keefe’s role as GPW liaison.
  3. Grosse Pointe CityO’Neill – the city is working on a Crisis Intervention Team to work across all of the Pointes. Since the passing of the Senior Mileage, the cities are trying to put a system in place where one representative from each Pointe interfaces with the Helm and its services.
  4. Grosse Pointe Shores- Wakefield- Fundraising is going on for a new pool. A small group of community members want to start a water committee as they are concerned with the rising water bills.
  5. Grosse Pointe Farms- Lally-Flyleaf is trying to get approval for outdoor street dining.
  6. Grosse Pointe Park –DeRosier – A school board survey was sent out to households south of Jefferson regarding the re-opening of Trombley.  The survey is due 3/24.  There is a “Sip and Stroll” Pub Crawl at The Charlevoix/O’Flahertys on 3/25 from 5:30-7:30 to discuss the future shape of the Charlevoix Streetscape. Approval has been given to lease the lot behind Corewell in the Park for parking for the Farmers Market on Kercheval.

 

February 11, 2025:

  1. Harper Woods –Singh – The Fire Department has merged with Detroit to cut tax expenses.  The highest recorded sale has occurred for $425,000.
  2. Grosse Pointe Woods – O’Keefe – Avenue in the Woods has a General Membership meeting on 3/5 at Pendy’s.  Please invite any business owners you know from GP to the meeting.
  3. Grosse Pointe CityO’Neill – The city is getting 5 license plate reader cameras to be placed around the city.  There will be one on the Saros Building and some other of his properties.  Other cameras will be on Mack Ave and Alter roads and maybe some of the busier intersections.

 

January 7, 2025:

  1. Harper Woods – Singh – Tax budget has been cut by 4.25 mils off the property taxes.
  2. Grosse Pointe Farms – Lally – They are working on the Social District on Kercheval.
  3. Grosse Pointe Park  DeRosier – Passed a new zoning ordinance for the entire city on Short Term Rental (STR) Restrictions and passed a Licensing Ordinance for STR Property Owners.  People with rented properties have been grandfathered for 120 days.  New STR’s will need to be licensed.  This will be revisited in July.
