New Grosse Pointe Park Zoning Ordinance:
- Complete zoning update/rewrite
- Clarified many aspects of building codes, land use, regulations, and enforcements that were missing from dated ordinance
- Most notable changes:
- New classifications of zoning districts
- In areas zoned for multifamily, correct permissible unit count numbers per building to conform with GPP’s housing stock
- Developments permissible of more than 5 residential units now permissible in Neighborhood Residential C (CR-C) District subject to special conditions regarding lot size, lot coverage, and require planning commission approval.
- Short-term residential rentals (Air BNB) now permissible in commercial districts only. Short-term rental operators who have been operating prior to the adoption of the new ordinance are permitted to continue operating their short-term rental through application process which grants a special land use.
- Special land use stays with property as long as the property continues to operate and stay in compliance with the ordinance.

Donna O’Keefe, Pres Elect – Avenue in the Woods Update
- Avenue in the Woods formation and goals
- The Avenue in the Woods business association is a non-profit that was formed in 2019 to increase awareness of Mack Ave as a destination for shopping, dining, and business.
- Banners and events were developed to bring more attention to the local businesses.
- Worked in conjunction with the city to foster better relations between the city and businesses.
- Accomplishments
- Banners
- New benches
- Trash cans
- Bike racks
- Planters
- Free parking for the holidays
- The city has adopted the "snowflake theme" to brighten the avenue in the winter
- Two social districts were approved
- The City Hall district extends from Broadstone to Lochmoor.
- The North District is Vernier to Hampton.
- This will allow people to grab a drink and stroll along Mack Ave. This includes the area in front of City Hall to enable people to bring their favorite beverage to events like Music on the Lawn in the summer.
- The city also ran a shuttle for the entire loop.
- The city opened a resident-only dog park.
- A disc golf course was opened at Ghesquiere Park.
- New Avenue in the Woods website
- Liquor licenses granted to two new restaurants
- "Daily Jam" - a brunch and lunch restaurant offering mimosas, Bloody Mary’s and other cocktails with your pancakes and omelets (located at the old Big Boy at Mack & Vernier)
- "Lola’s Tacos"- with margaritas and an outdoor patio
- The city did a complete rewrite of the Master Plan.
- Future plans
- The crosswalks north of Vernier will now have solar-powered LED, rapid-amber flashing, push activated beacons, as well as signage and markings in the street (these are the crosswalks that do not have traffic stop lights).
- Parking meters will be changed to the Passport App.
- The Mack/Vernier intersection will have major reconstruction starting in April, including a new light and crosswalk at Sunningdale Park to allow a safer route to Parcells Middle School.
- A walking path will be added around the perimeter of Ghesquiere Park.
- New fencing will be installed around the baseball diamonds in time for the city to host the State U11 Little League Baseball Tournament.
- The city is exploring options on how to better utilize the property in front of City Hall.
- Possible ideas include a permanent stage or amphitheatre, firepit and gathering spaces.
- 75th Anniversary of the City of Grosse Pointe Woods
- There will be several events planned, including a big celebration in July at Music on the Lawn, and a special ceremony in December on the actual anniversary, that will include opening the time capsule.
- Grosse Pointe Farms approved a Social District for the Hill.
- The Hill be hosting "Racing for Kids" again this summer.
- Short-term rental
- The city has a proposed ordinance to not allow short-term rentals.
- In GP Woods, the definition of short-term rentals/Airbnb will be any rental 29 days or less. The reasoning is that there are not enough houses available for people who want to live in GP Woods.
- There will be a public hearing on this topic at the Planning Commission Meeting before final approval of the ordinance.
- The city has a proposed ordinance to not allow short-term rentals.
